Creating a Beautiful Place for Connection
By Tiffany Edmond | Elite Open House Collective
Sometimes, the piece that gives a room its personality is a chair.
A rich color. A beautiful curve. A texture that makes you want to reach out and touch it. An accent chair can become the starting point for a room that feels thoughtfully styled—and comfortable enough to enjoy.
This week’s Style Spotlight brings together teal velvet, warm ivory, brushed gold, and sculptural shapes. The look is luxurious, but the intention is familiar: create a place where people want to sit, settle in, and spend time together
Let the Chair Set the Direction
In this room, the teal chairs draw your attention first. Their rounded silhouettes and velvet upholstery bring richness to the light-filled space, while gold bases add a finishing detail.
To interpret this look in your own home, begin with what you love about the chair. Is it the color? The shape? The fabric? Let that choice guide a few surrounding details.
Before committing to a piece, consider how you’ll use it. A chair for long conversations should feel comfortable beyond the first few minutes. Check the seat depth, back support, and how easily you can sit down and stand up.
Balance Rich Color With Breathing Room
The ivory sofa and warm walls give the teal room to stand out. Color appears again in the pillows and artwork, creating a connection between pieces across the room.
You can take the same approach without replacing your existing furniture. A pillow, a throw, or a piece of art may be enough to introduce your chair’s color elsewhere.
Choose details you enjoy individually, then step back and look at how they work together.
Give the Seating a Shared Foundation
The cream-and-teal swirl rug brings movement into the arrangement and connects the chairs, sofa, and coffee table.
When planning your own layout, consider the seating area as a whole. A rug that reaches beneath the front legs of the main seating pieces can help the arrangement feel connected. Measure your space and check doorways and walking routes before choosing a size
A beautiful room should still be easy to move through.
Style for the Person Sitting There
A sculptural side table looks lovely beside an accent chair, but its everyday purpose matters, too. Give someone a place to set a drink, rest a book, or keep their journal close.
Lighting deserves the same attention. A nearby lamp can make the chair useful for reading and give the room a softer atmosphere in the evening.
For the finishing touches, I love the height of an olive tree in an ivory planter, the warmth of a gold tray, and a small floral arrangement. Leave enough clear surface for someone to actually use the table.
Make Room to Share
This week’s Fellowship ritual is SHARE—Offer What Has Grown.
That intention belongs in our homes, too. A seating arrangement can make space for stories, encouragement, laughter, and the quiet comfort of being heard.
Angle a chair toward the sofa. Offer someone the comfortable seat. Put your phone down and give the conversation your attention.
You can begin with the room you already have. Sometimes, moving one chair is enough to make a space feel more welcoming.
Your Style Invitation
Look around your living room. Is there a corner you would enjoy using more? A chair that feels disconnected from the conversation? A place that needs better lighting?
Choose one adjustment this week and see how it changes the way you use your home.
What catches your eye in this look—the teal chairs, the swirl rug, or the sculptural tables?
